Analytic Advisor to Executives Committed to Becoming Analytic Leaders
Hello, I am Heather L. Cole and my passion is coaching Finance and IT professionals to Level Up in their career and personal life.
My career in Finance and IT started as a teenager working for my parent’s software company. My jobs for them included bookkeeping, technical support, sales, and training. I went to Iowa State University only after they threatened to fire me and I studied finance and computer science. Then off to law school where I studied computer law and tax. Yes, I am a nerd.
I worked for several software companies delivering financial and business analytic software over the years, but at some point, early in my career I hit a rut. I wasn’t unhappy, but I wasn’t happy either. I tend to be someone who likes routine. I eat oatmeal with blueberries almost every morning. I get upset when I enter my favorite coffee shop and someone is sitting at my table. Being a person who does not like change and in a rut is a bad place to be. It’s like purgatory. Everyone around me seemed fine just existing, but I felt like I was drowning. Thoughts like, “Was I in the wrong career? How did I get here? Why do I feel unrecognized for my efforts? I should be making more money” all flooded my mind.
How I Got Out of the Rut
As a highly analytically minded person I started to research. I figured there’s got to be an easy answer to my challenge. I read books on happiness, mojo, philosophy, positive psychology, high performance, neuroscience, and physiology. With each book, I made small changes. I listened more. I showed more empathy. I journaled. All my efforts helped. I started noticing that clients weren’t requesting me for my technology skills, they wanted my energy, my positive spirit. They wanted ME. The more they requested me, the more value I added to my firm. Then one day, I calculated the value I was bringing in and mustered up the guts to ask for a raise. They doubled my income immediately.
This only encouraged me to read more books on presentation skills, body language, and almost every self-help book I could get my hands on. I even took an improv class.
I followed the best motivational coaches in the world Tony Robbins, Brendon Burchard, Dali Lama, and Dale Carnegie. I listened to podcasts and audible books as I dusted my house and walked the dog.
With all the knowledge, my friends and work associates started coming to me with their challenges. They would joke I should be a “life coach”.
The Big Step
My first big step was getting a coach myself. For years, I thought I could learn and do everything myself. After all, I didn’t need coaching. But, then I bought a bundle of personal development programs and it included some coaching. I got it for free, so I might as well use it.
After the first session, in just one hour my life had been changed forever! I realized I really did want to become a coach. That I had a unique ability to understand the complexities of the highly analytical minds of IT and Finance and help them Level Up and achieve their goals.
My journey has led me to where I am today, a Certified High Performance Coach that has developed training programs that advance the thinking and execution of IT and Finance. The techniques and process used are scientifically proven methods that will increase your Clarity, Energy, Courage, Productivity and Influence. I have also created programs that train you how to increase your value and make more money in IT and finance, how to define your Business Analytics roadmap, how to get the users to communicate what they need on a dashboard, and how to effectively define requirements for a new project. I believe by receiving coaching from someone that gets you, you can rapidly learn to level up and receive the job satisfaction, recognition, and financial rewards you deserve.
Are you where you want to be in your career? Do you make the money you deserve? Are you a respected team member in your organization? If you answered No to any of these questions, coaching can help you!
